Charalambos G. Prountzos

Charalambos was born in 1978. Educated at the University of Bristol from which he received an LLB in 2001. He continued his edu- cation and professional training at the Inns of Courts School of Law, London where he successfully completed the Bar Vocational Course and received the professional title of Barrister – at – Law. He is a Member of Gray’s Inn and was called to the Bar in 2003. He has also received a diploma in Professional Legal Skills from City University. He was admitted as a member of the Cyprus Bar Association in 2005 and started practicing in the same year. Charalambos is the Head of the Corporate and Commercial Department, the Financial Services Department, and Energy Law Department. He is also heavily involved in the international tax planning. Charalambos is the Chairman of the Open University of Cyprus and a Board Member of the Cyprus Investment Funds Association and of RISE, one of the largest research projects in Cyprus.

Constantinos was born in Nicosia. Educated in the University of Thrace where he received an LLB degree in Law. He is fluent in Greek and English languages, both written and spoken. He was admitted as a member of the Cyprus Bar Association in 2006 and started practicing in the same year. He joined our firm in April 2014 and is one of our firm's Senior Associates. He is heavily involved in a wide range of claims and disputes in respect of civil and commercial litigation including contract claims, labour law, competi- tion law, personal injury claims, insurance claims, road traffic accidents, banking and finance disputes, landlord and tenant dis- putes, debt collection, bankruptcy, disputes in family law, disputes in construction contracts and is actively engaged in defamation cases. Furthermore, he is involved in tender disputes before the Tender Review Authority and Appeals before the Supreme Court of Cyprus. Constantinos is further involved in various modes of alternative dispute resolution and is an "ADR Group Accredited Civil & Commercial Mediator" since 2014.

Constantinos was born in 1987. He has graduated from the University of Manchester in 2011 where he obtained his Law L.L.B. and he shortly received his Master’s education in the same University, concentrating on the European Business law area (L.L.M. in EU Business Structures and Conflict of Laws). He is fluent in both Greek and English, and conversational in Italian. He is a member of the Cyprus Bar Association and he has been employed at the Firm since 2012. Constantinos is currently a Senior Manager and is heavily involved in Commercial Law disputes, Real Estate issues, drafting of commercial and business contracts as well as Competition Law disputes and waste-management compliance procedures. He is also involved in matters of Renewable Energy and Public Procurement Law. Furthermore, he is actively engaged in tender disputes before the Tender Review Authority and the Administrative and Supreme Court of Cyprus.

Iacovos completed his LLB (Honours) and his LLM in Corporate and Commercial Law (Distinction) from the London School of Economics & Social Sciences (LSE). He subsequently completed his legal training in Cyprus in 2010 and was admitted with commendation to the Cyprus Bar Association. Iacovos has worked for 7 years in the Corporate & Commercial department of another Big4 Law firm before joining Prountzos & Prountzos LLC, a regulated Cyprus law firm and a member firm of Ernst & Young Global Limited in 2017. He is currently a Senior Manager in our Corporate Department and manages the team of lawyers involved with corporate and digital law related matters. Iacovos and his team are regularly involved and provide advice on corporate restructurings, M&A, both local and cross-border reorganisations, inbound and outbound re-domiciliations, setting up IP structures, setting up internal corporate governance systems, corporate litigation disputes as well as advice on and assistance with other aspects of the regulatory framework relevant to the corporate, commercial and industrial sectors both in Cyprus and the EU. Iacovos has also been leading the legal team advising clients in relation to the implementation of the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Iacovos is fluent in Greek and English.

Dina was born in 1988. Educated in the United Kingdom at the Kingston University where she received an LLB degree in 2009, then proceeded in obtaining an LLM in Commercial and Corporate Law in 2010, from the Queen Mary University of London. She is fluent in Greek and English languages, both written and spoken. She was admitted as a member of the Cyprus Bar Association in 2011. She has joined our firm in April 2012 and she heads our firm's Corporate litigation department. Dina specializes in Company, Corporate and Commercial law, International Trusts, Shipping Law and is also involved in the realm of Regulated Financial Services.

Demetris was born in Nicosia and was educated at the Law school of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he received his LL.B degree. Demetris also has an LLM in European Union Law from the Open University of Cyprus. He was admitted as a member of the Cyprus Bar Association in 2011 and he joined our Firm in January 2017. He is a Manager in the litigation department of our Firm and he is heavily involved in a wide range of litigation disputes, administration cases and civil claims as well as with commercial litigation issues including contract claims, labor law, personal injury claims, insurance claims, road traffic accidents, bankruptcy, banking and finance. Daniel is a manager in the Regulated Financial Services, Funds and Capital Markets team of the firm. He is an advocate of the Supreme Court of Cyprus and a member of the Cyprus Bar Association and is also admitted to practice in Greece. Daniel joined EY Law in 2018 after having worked with the law firm of another Big4 firm and one of the largest law firms in Cyprus. He is an Oxford graduate and scholar of the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, Greece and the WSD Louey Foundation, Hong Kong.
Daniel is experienced in the provision of legal advice relating to M&A and Corporate Law, Banking & Finance Law, Capital Markets and Collective Investment Schemes. He is regularly engaged by EU and third-country corporate and institutional clients such as banks, funds and investment firms as well as their legal advisers (predominantly major international law firms), on issues of project development and finance and commercial contract negotiations both from a transactional and regulatory perspective.
Indicatively, Daniel recently advised (i) PIMCO in relation to the transaction structuring of bridge financing of distressed REO backed borrowers on a DFAS basis in Cyprus; (ii) the National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) Ltd with respect to project financing transactions (renewable energy P/V parks); (iii) a distressed borrower in relation to a prominent Debt for Asset Swap (above EUR 55mln) with a systemic Bank in Cyprus; (iv) various Alternative Investment Fund Managers and Alternative Investment Funds with respect to corporate governance matters and their investment undertakings.
Prior to joining the firm Daniel (i) represented a US private investment firm dedicated to investing globally in the financial services industry towards the intended capital increase of a systemic Bank in Cyprus; (ii) advised the interested purchasers of a Cyprus authorized credit institution in the negotiations of the term-sheet and performed an initial legal due diligence in connection with the potential acquisition of a majority stake in the bank; (iii) worked alongside a top-tier international law firm in connection with a secured Cyprus law transaction entered into between a German borrower and its syndicated lenders following a German law merger.

Marios was born in Larnaca. He obtained his Law Degree from the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and was awarded with an LLM in International Commercial Law from the University of Kent, U.K. He is fluent both in Greek and English. He was admitted as a member of the Cyprus Bar Association in 2012 and he joined our firm in August 2017 as a Senior Associate. He is heavily involved in a wide range of claims and disputes in respect of civil and commercial litigation including torts, contract claims, injury and insurance claims, intellectual property, banking and finance and disputes related to landlord and tenancy agreements, bankruptcy, family law, recognition and enforcement of foreign judgements, arbitration and construction claims. He is experienced in advising and representing clients in a wide range of commercial disputes and contractual claims. His knowledge and expertise also extends on commercial agreements, merger and acquisition transactions, debt collection, drafting property sale agreements and any aspect related to land development.
Mariliza Kalaitzaki obtained her LLB from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She was admitted as a member of the Cyprus Bar Association in 2015 and she joined our firm in 2018. She is currently a Senior Associate in our Litigation Department. Her main areas of practice include administrative and constitutional law, public procurement law, employment law, criminal law and civil law litigation pertaining to a variety of cases including tortius and negligence claims, debt collection claims, personal injury claims and contract claims. She has also acquired extensive experience dealing with petitions and injunctions. Furthermore, Mariliza has experience in drafting and amending commercial agreements as well as preparing and providing legal opinions. She is also engaged in Alternative Dispute Resolution, being a registered Mediator in business, commercial and civil disputes. She is fluent in Greek and English, both written and spoken, and conversational in French.

Mikaela holds a Law and European Legal Studies diploma (LLB with Honours) from the University of Kent, in Canterbury.
Prior to returning to Cyprus, Mikaela worked for a City law firm in London in the Financial Markets team and assisted on securitisation and portfolio sales transactions for reputable banks and financial institutions. She subsequently returned to Cyprus and completed her legal training. She is a member of the Cyprus Bar Association and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Cyprus. Before joining Prountzos & Prountzos LLC., Mikaela worked for another Big4 law firm in the Corporate and Financial Services teams.
She is currently a Senior Associate in the Regulated Financial Services, Funds and Capital Markets team of the firm and provides legal and regulatory advice to alternative investment funds, financial institutions and other regulated entities. Mikaela also has experience on the set-up and licensing of electronic money institutions and payment service providers and has an interest in FinTech and Blockchain/DLT technology, on which she writes regular online articles.

Tania was born in 1994 in Nicosia. She graduated from the University of Southampton in 2015 where she obtained her LLB degree and later on she graduated from the University of Edinburgh where she obtained her Master’s in Human Rights Law. She joined our firm in September 2016 as a Trainee Lawyer in the Litigation Department, she was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2017 and she is currently employed to the Firm as a Lawyer. Evyenia was born in London. She graduated from the University of East Anglia where she obtained her Law degree and thereafter preceded to continue her studies at University College London (UCL) with an LLM in International Business Law. She was admitted as a member of the Cyprus Bar Association in 2011 and has since worked at a top tier ranked law firm as well as worked as in-house legal counsel for an international company. She joined our firm in August 2019 as a Senior Associate. Her main areas of practice are primarily competition law, commercial law, data privacy and employment law. She has extensive experience in advising clients on merger control law matters, notifications of concentrations before the Cyprus Competition authority (CPC) and antitrust practices. She also provides labour law advice to clients covering a wide range of areas including dismissals, with a special focus on the preparation of employment related documentation for multinational as well as domestic entities. Moreover, she provides regulatory advice to international companies in relation to advertising, marketing, licensing and labelling requirements. She has also advised companies on data privacy, cybercrime and e-commerce matters, and particularly in light of the implementation of the GDPR, advises on GDPR issues and mandatory requirements. Rafaella has graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2012 where she obtained her Law Degree (LLB) and later obtained an LLM from the University College London (UCL) concentrating on the European Human Rights Law. She is member of the Cyprus Bar Association since 2016 after achieving the highest average mark nationally at the Legal Council Bar Examinations on February 2016. She currently studies as a scholar at the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM) to obtain a Master in Financial Services (MSc) and since 2018, she is member of the Human Rights Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association.
Rafaella worked as a trainee at the office of a Member of the European Parliament in Brussels and had a three-year experience as a litigation lawyer before joining our Commercial Law department on June 2019 as a Senior Associate. Within the Firm, Martha engages heavily both representing clients at the Court and drafting elaborate and tailor-made legal opinions. Evi Venizelou was born in 1984. She will obtain shortly an Undergraduate Degree in Accounting from the University of Nicosia and she will join the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants afterwards. She has worked for Sharelink Securities & Financial Services Limited since 2007 until early 2010, when she joined our firm. She is currently heading our Accounting Department.

Christiana was born in 1986. She studied Agricultural Development at the Democritus University of Thrace. She has worked previously as a secretary at a law firm since 2010 until 2015. Christiana joined our firm in January 2016 as a secretary and is involved in the general organization of the court Department.

Louiza was born in 1983. She is fluent in Greek and English language, both written and spoken. She has attended several courses for Marketing, Sales and Office Administration in Cyprus and abroad. She has worked as an Events & Conference organizer since 2006 until 2011 and as an office administrator since 2011 until today. Louiza joined our firm in June 2014 as a secretary and is involved in the general organisation of the office, as well as an assistant in banking and corporate management issues.
